Business Jet Comparison:

Dassault Falcon 10X Vs Gulfstream G700

The Dassault Falcon 10X is the latest business jet announced by the French manufacturer. It faces competition from the Gulfstream G700, the latest aircraft to be announced by the American manufacturer.

Both aircraft showcase the latest and highest standards of comfort and technology in the private jet market.

These are two of the newest flagship aircraft, with deliveries of the 10X expected to start in 2025. In comparison, deliveries of the G700 began in 2022.

So, considering these are the two newest, most expensive, and powerful jets in the world, how do they stack up against each other? Ultimately, which aircraft is better?

The Dassault Falcon 10X is powered by two Rolls-Royce Pearl engines. Unfortunately, data on total power is not yet available. However, we can estimate the overall thrust to be around 36,000 pounds.

Interestingly, one must wonder if this indicates the final end of the tri-jet era. For example, another recent aircraft released by Dassault is the Falcon 6X, which also has only two engines.

Has Dassault concluded that three engines are simply no longer necessary? Will the 900LX, 7X, and 8X be the last of the tri-engine aircraft?

On the other hand, the Gulfstream G700 is equipped with two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, each delivering thrust up to 18,250 pounds. Thus, the total thrust of the G700 is 36,500 pounds.

When it comes to maximum cruise speed, these aircraft are equal. Both jets can reach speeds of up to 516 knots or 0.925 Mach. For reference, 1 Mach is the speed of sound.

Therefore, this speed places both aircraft among the fastest production business jets.

Naturally, as expected from these aircraft, both can operate at altitudes of up to 51,000 feet.

As for average fuel consumption, we currently have data only for the G700. Unfortunately, there is no fuel consumption data available for the Falcon 10X at this time. However, considering the similarities of these aircraft, it can be estimated at around 400 gallons per hour.

However, for the G700, the average hourly fuel burn is 382 gallons per hour. This is a typical figure for an aircraft of this size.

Dassault Falcon 10X

Where Dassault has always excelled is in the interiors of their aircraft. Fortunately, the Falcon 10X is no exception. While the performance metrics may not be impressive, the interior is stunning. Frankly, this is where Dassault seems to have spent most of its time innovating, as this is where passengers and clients will spend their time.

According to Dassault, “the 10X will have the largest and most comfortable cabin on the market and will offer greater modularity than any other aircraft in its class.”

The 10X will be capable of accommodating up to four separate cabin zones, all of equal length. Of course, clients will have the option to customize the cabin as they see fit.

For instance, clients can configure an expanded dining/conference area, a dedicated entertainment zone with a large-screen monitor, a separate cabin with a queen-size bed, or an enlarged master suite with a separate shower.

Additionally, while the cabin altitude at cruise is unknown, it is known that at 41,000 feet, the cabin altitude will be just 3,000 feet. Therefore, according to Dassault, the pressurization system “will be the best on the market.”

Furthermore, the cabin filtration system will ensure 100% clean air, and the cabin will be at least as quiet as that of the Falcon 8X.

Moreover, “the 10X will feature an entirely new fuselage with very large windows—almost 50 percent larger than those in the Falcon 8X. Thirty-eight windows will be positioned along the fuselage, making the cabin the brightest in business aviation.”

Gulfstream G700

According to Gulfstream, the G700 boasts the highest, widest, and longest cabin in the industry. If you need a larger cabin, VIP airliners such as the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) or Embraer Lineage 1000E would be suitable.

The goal of the G700 is to create the most comfortable conditions in the sky so you can effectively sleep, work, or relax. The G700 features true circadian lighting that mimics the sunlight of your next time zone, helping to reduce jet lag.

Additionally, the maximum cabin altitude of the G700 is only 4,850 feet, which is one of the lowest cabin altitudes on a private jet, helping you sleep better and reducing jet lag effects. Add to this the extremely quiet cabin, and you’ll have no issues working, sleeping, or simply relaxing.

Gulfstream has also equipped the G700 with twenty of the largest windows in business aviation, flooding the cabin with natural light so that the already spacious cabin feels even more expansive. The G700 comes standard with Ka-band Jet Connex Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected while in the air for hours on end.

The G700 features a completely new seat design that is handcrafted for each aircraft and can convert into ergonomic beds. The maximum capacity of the G700 is 19 passengers in a seated position and 13 passengers in a sleeping configuration. The cabin can accommodate up to five living spaces, allowing you to always find privacy with your fellow travelers during long flights.

Conclusion

So, which of these aircraft is better?

Well, the Dassault Falcon 10X was designed to directly compete with the G700. Prior to this, Dassault's best offering was the 8X. However, the 8X lagged behind in nearly every metric.

Now, the story has changed. Both the 10X and G700 can fly at the same speeds, cover the same distances, carry the same number of passengers, and, importantly, cost the same.

Thus, the choice comes down to personal preference and anticipated depreciation.
