After several years of setbacks and technical issues with the engines for its new business jet Falcon 5X, French manufacturer Dassault Aviation has decided to halt the development of this model. When the Twinjet was launched in 2013, it was announced that it would be equipped with Safran Silvercrest engines, with the first delivery expected by the end of this year. However, serious technical problems in the development of Silvercrest led to delays in delivery, as the aircraft's test program was supposed to begin by the end of 2017. Using prototype versions of the engine, the 5X made its first flight on July 5, but the engine manufacturer later informed Dassault that new issues had arisen with the high-pressure compressor, as well as with not achieving the declared specifications, which would result in further delays in engine delivery. Hopes were finally dashed regarding the certification plan for the engines in 2018. “Given the scale of the risks associated with both the technical and scheduling aspects of the Silvercrest program, Dassault initiated the process to terminate the Silvercrest contract, which led to the conclusion of the Falcon 5X program.” Although Dassault has canceled its engine order, Textron Aviation stated that it is still collaborating with Silvercrest for its Citation Hemisphere generation, which, upon completion, will be the largest aircraft in the manufacturer's fleet. As a result of the cancellation of the 5X, Dassault CEO Eric Trappier announced the launch of a replacement Falcon, which will be powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 engines and is planned to enter service in 2022.
